Image Update Workshop
INTRODUCTION
Did you know that when people first meet you they form up to 11
different opinions about you in the first 60 seconds? Things like how successful you are,
how much money you make...even your moral character! And most of this is based entirely on
how you look! Like Mom always said...You never get a second chance to make a good first
impression.
Obviously then, you want to project the BEST image possible because how
you look affects how you are perceived. It also affects how you feel about yourself. When
you look good, you feel good!
So what does your image say about you? Do you know what colors look best
on you? Do you accessorize your outfits the same way every time you wear them? Here we are
going to explore these and many other aspects of your Total Image.
In the following sections we will explore some tips in each area that
will help you improve your image. Follow through as we discuss the elements of image and
how to improve in each area.

COLOR HARMONY
| Have you ever had a day when everyone asked if
you were sick even though you felt fine? This may have been because you chose colors that
didn't harmonize with your natural coloring. Wearing colors that harmonize with your
natural coloring will enhance your overall appearance. Here's a good example of a before
and after image. |
 |
The woman on the left is not
wearing enough makeup and her clothing colors do not harmonize with her natural coloring.
As a result she looks tired and washed out. But on the right side you can see how wearing
makeup and clothing colors that enhance your natural coloring add up to a vibrant,
confident look! |
There are over a million colors in existence and all of these can
be classified as either cool or warm. Color analysis will reveal whether a person has cool
blue undertones in their skin, hair and eyes, or warm golden undertones.
Color analysis will further classify you by the intensity and strength
of your coloring. There are two cool seasons, Winter and Summer, and two warm
seasons, Autumn and Spring.
I'm sure you are beginning to see the importance color plays in how you
look and feel. You can't color analyze yourself by reading a book or putting a few facts
into a computer program. I will be happy to work with you if you are interested in
having your colors analyzed. Just go to my Color Analysis page!

DRESSING FOR
BODYTYPE!
There are four basic body types which are based on your metabolism and
where you gain weight. Here we will discuss each one and describe some tips on how to
accentuate the positive and hide the flaws!

Rectangle
Rectangle body types are relatively rare and are characterized by
well-shaped but childlike bodies and small breasts. Rectangle body types are not
necessarily petite or short. Their hands and feet are delicate and their heads are larger
than average by proportion. Rectangle types tend to have a little "pot belly"
even when they're not over weight. Rectangle body types gain weight in their abdomen,
thighs and love handles. Nancy Reagan and Vanna White are good examples of a rectangle
bodytype.
Shoulder pads and clothing that is poufed at the hips are good choices
for a rectangle body type, helping to add the illusion of more curves. Other great choices
are Peplum jackets and knitwear that can be belted. |

Triangle
Triangle types (or pear shapes) have a lower torso that is usually
pronounced, a flat stomach and a prominent rear that is one to two sizes larger than the
top. Triangle types tend to gain weight in their rears and thighs, and are prone to
saddlebags while their stomachs remain relatively flat and their waists small. Goldie Hawn
is a good example of a slender triangle body type.
Triangle types should ALWAYS wear shoulder pads to broaden their
shoulders and balance their hips. Choose styles that focus on their small waists. Other
good fashion choices include pleated pants, blouses with a lot of detailing and jackets
that cover the hips. Dark colors on bottom and bright colors on top draw the eye upward,
focusing attention away from the hips. |

Hourglass
Hourglass bodytypes have the most balanced body with fairly wide
shoulders, defined waist and rounded hips. Hourglass types are usually fine-boned. If an
hourglass gains weight, it's usually in the love handles, stomach and thighs but a small
waist remains apparent. Elizabeth Taylor is a good example of an hourglass bodytype.
Hourglass types that are not overweight can wear just about any style
they choose because their shoulders and hips are proportionately balanced. Hourglass types
should accentuate the positive with smart tailoring. For a sleek, more sophisticated look,
wear shorter tapered skirts and jackets nipped at the waist. Other good fashion choices
include long, fitted jackets, unfussy blouses which prevent a top-heavy look. Tapered
slacks and straight skirts. Overweight hourglass types should stay away from the belted
look, unless covered by a jacket. Without a jacket, opt for styles that nip in at the
waist. |

Wedge
Wedge body types have broad shoulders, flat rears, straight legs and a
tapered rather than defined waist. Wedge types may also have large, rounded breasts. If a
wedge type gains weight, it shows on her stomach, midriff, breasts and arms, with her rear
remaining flat and her thighs proportionately slender. Linda Evans is a good example of a
wedge body type.
Wedge body types should focus on styles that show off their narrow hips
and possible camouflage a large bust, heavy upper arms and midriff. Tapered dresses look
great on wedge body types. Big shirts or sweaters over slim skirts and unbelted chemises
are also good choices. |

CORE WARDROBING
Another secret to creating the MOST mixing and matching possibilities
and saving money is to develop a core wardrobe. A core wardrobe will save you much time,
money and frustration! One such core wardrobe may consist of 2 suits, 3 blouses and a
skirt in your color season. You can literally create dozens of looks from just 10 pieces.
Just by changing a blouse or accessories you can expand your wardrobe
even more. Separates with simple lines in solid colors offer the most flexibility.
And since you need fewer pieces you can afford to invest in quality
clothing and special accessories...which will further enhance your image.

ACCESSORIZING
Accessories give you that pulled together look. The right earrings or
belt can add the extra touch that turns your your "Clothes" into an
"Outfit". Visit A Total
Image Gifts to find that perfect piece of jewelry for your custom outfit! So let's discuss some small changes that can make a big difference in your
overall appearance!
Tailoring
I can't stress this enough...tailoring can make a huge difference in the
overall look of an outfit. Women and men should expect to tailor their clothing. Two women
can both be size 8's, but be different in height, body type and weight. Even 1/4" can
make your clothes look more expensive and more flattering. And tailoring will also make
you look pounds thinner. |
Hosiery
Pay particular attention to your hosiery. Colored hosiery pulls together
a look and adds a little extra sophistication. Matching your hosiery to the hem of your
garment or shoe makes you look slimmer and taller!
If you are wearing bright colors like orange or neon pink, natural
skin-toned hosiery would be the best choice. Be sure to match skin-toned hosiery to your
actual skin color or go a little paler -- avoid outdated cinnamon or orangey colored
suntan hosiery.
Many people have problems coordinating spectator (two toned) pumps with
hosiery. The best choice is to match your hosiery to the lightest color of the shoe. Never
wear hosiery that's darker than the lightest color of the shoe or garment. |

Attire at the
Workplace
Be sure to dress appropriately for your workplace. Take a look around
you and see what other women are wearing and stay within the boundaries. Nothing will make
you loose face faster than wearing an inappropriate outfit in the work environment.
I hope you have enjoyed and benefited from the tips above.
